French Christmas Noel Lesson and Activities BUNDLE

Joyeux Noël! Here are resources to plan a fun Christmas in French unit (Noël en Français). This BUNDLE contains a 100-slide interactive PPT PowerPoint slide lesson presentation (with teaching points, vocabulary, and interactive review games), flashcards, worksheets, puzzles, fun printable games and activities, to teach and review vocabulary 30 key Christmas terms and key French Christmas and New Year greetings. The presentation also includes some slides looking at French Christmas traditions which could be used as part of a Christmas Around the World topic; there’s enough material for multiple lessons, including speaking, reading and writing activities, and there’s differentiation too. This comprehensive pack works well for the last few weeks of the term in December and is full of festive fun for cover lesson plans if required.

My FSL / MFL French basics resources are designed for students beginning French and near beginners in Upper KS2 or KS3 (Years 5, 6, 7 and 8) and equivalents but they may suit others, depending on experience. Please check the previews to assess suitability. All resources are in PDF, apart from the presentation, which is PowerPoint (but it is included in an additional PDF format too).

These resources suit countries that celebrate Christmas during winter, due to the inclusion of snowflake and snowman. Common French Christmas greetings are included in some activities also.

PRESENTATION AND FLASHCARDS
In addition to introducing key vocabulary and phrases, this presentation includes:

Please note that some of the text in the PowerPoint is editable, however the images are not. Many slides in the original PowerPoint version feature answers that appear when you click, for students to respond. An additional PDF version is included. While the PDF version does not retain the ability for teachers to reveal answers by clicking, it will still help you introduce and review this topic if you do not have PowerPoint where you work. Please note that the Hexagons and Hangman games are not compatible with PDF and are therefore omitted from that version.

WORKSHEETS AND PUZZLES

• KEY VOCABULARY: Key vocabulary support pages to display or print for students who require it. Includes a word mat over two pages (3 versions: with background color, without background, and black and white), a one page vocab list of the core 30 words, and a common French Christmas Greetings support sheet. Please note that these vocab support pages are also included in my French Christmas Printable Games pack.

• WORKSHEETS: 4 differentiated worksheets. The 1-star versions are a little easier. Includes gap fill, drawing tasks, translations, fill the blanks and a short reading comprehension. The included vocabulary is mostly featured on the vocab support pages but on some worksheets a small amount of other common French vocabulary is included.

• PUZZLES: There are 5 puzzles: a grid puzzle, wordsearch puzzle, crossword puzzle, hidden word puzzle and maze. The first three puzzles are differentiated, with the 1-star versions providing a little more support. The grid puzzle is differentiated three ways. Please note the wordsearch and crossword do not include accents.

PRINTABLE GAMES

• Four in a Row: Print and laminate the game board. First to get four in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally - wins. Students roll dice, then choose a word or phrase from that number column and say it in French. If correct, use a whiteboard pen to put a symbol or initial in that box.

• “J’ai…Qui a…?” Loop Game: A speaking game for groups or the whole class. Print and laminate for repeated use. The 30 cards form a continuous loop so it doesn’t matter which one you start with.

• Team Relay Game: Ideal for the whole class or can work for smaller groups too. Print and laminate the cards (double-sided – or return to printer to print on the other side). Students take turns to locate the next card, until they have all their cards. The cards feature letters that they will rearrange at the end to spell a short French word. Answers included.

• Serpents et Echelles Board Game: Print and laminate board, works like normal Snakes and Ladders, only with students calling out French words and phrases when they land on them. Answer key included.

• School Plan Listening Game (Christmas Edition): Students are issued with a blank school plan and listen to the teacher calling out the location of Christmas items, which they must draw correctly onto the plan. Answer plans included.
