I developed this lesson based on my students concerns, issues and anxieties about this section of the exam. Can be taught as a bolster lesson, revision or in addition to my resources on Component 2, SEC A and with viewings, should take 6-8 lessons to teach. This lesson covers:
-Breakdown of the Component 2 exam.
-The lesson starts with a recap of key RAIL and CHEPS features and the viewing of a documentary on the contexts of the 1970’s.
-The lesson then comprises of a series of clues, codes to be broken and missions that center around the narrative of the lesson, below:
Listen up rookie. You’ve been assigned to the ‘Flying Squad’. You’ll answer directly to Detective Chief Inspector Frank Haskins and will be taken under Reagan and Carter’s wing while you acclimatize. Keep an ear to the ground throughout today’s various briefings and interviews you could be the break in the case that we need. Dave Brooker has been sprung from an armed convoy transporting him to the Scrubs. Two armed officers were killed by a pair of armed, masked men. Another plain clothed officer following the convoy was taken hostage also. He does not get away on our watch. Understand?
-If students get to the end of the lesson, as a class they can pick one of the educational prizes, from the list of:
EVIDENCE BOX 1A. An exemplar 10/10 response on the Contexts question.
EVIDENCE BOX 2B. An exemplar 10/10 response on the Industry question.
EVIDENCE BOX 3C. A Mastery sheet on a ‘Luther’ Media Language extract question.
EVIDENCE BOX 4D. A Mastery sheet on a ‘Luther’ Representation extract question
Exam prep, assessment of retained knowledge etc. makes up the lions share of this lesson. All resources, answers to tasks and top tips are in the notes section of the power point or are attached.
NOTE: I am following EDUQAS Teaching Model 1 in my teaching/ SOW and my school is only providing Media Studies at GCSEl, as a three-year Course. Moreover, some of the tasks in lesson and for H/W are dependent upon owning the EDUQAS GCSE Revision Guide.
