GCSE Revision: Character of Macbeth

AQA GCSE English Literature Shakespeare – Macbeth - Exam Revision – How to Answer Exam Questions on the Character of Macbeth (based on an extract from 1:7)

This presentation is designed to help you prepare your class to answer a GCSE English Literature question on Shakespeare’s Macbeth. It is NOT intended to teach students the play – students should already be familiar with ‘Macbeth’. It is designed for you to use later in the school year when the play has been fully covered and the students need to learn how to use this knowledge to write the best possible exam answers.

The presentation is entitled ’ Answering AQA Questions on Shakespeare’s Macbeth’: this 36-slide Powerpoint presentation has been carefully designed and created to help you guide your class through each part of the essay writing process. It includes each of the following elements: the AOs and the Mark Scheme, exam timing and weighting, essay structure, how to write an introduction, using ‘rough notes’ for planning, contents of the main body and how to write a conclusion. Most importantly, it features many extracts from a sample exam answer which are annotated to show the importance of using subject terminology, precise and judicious quotes and references to the playwright’s craft.

Also included is the sample exam question that this presentation is based on, a page of student-friendly AOs and a set of helpful Teacher’s Instructions.
