This is a good lesson to finish off when you have been looking at measuring weight using grams and kilograms, and converting between the two. The lesson begins by telling children they are packing a suitcase to go on holiday to Dublin. They must not exceed 16kg worth of luggage. The presentation also tells them some suggested weights for objects (every item of clothing weighs 100g, every pair of shoes wears 500g etc)
Children must plan out their suitcase, adding and multiplyng the weights together and subtracting constantly from the total. They are constantly having to convert between grams and kilograms for their equations. To finish, children must estimate the weight of some other objects they would like to pack in their suitcase.

The lesson begins and ends with some word problems similar to the context and relating to weight and fractions. I found them really useful because they meant they were having to practice skills that they had not been taught that day.
