Such a simple premise generated an interesting and accessible investigation for students.
I think it is great. If, as you suggested, you use it for fractions, instead of starting with 1 when all neighbouring squares are blank, what would you start with?

This is a really nice rich task which would make the basis for a great lesson on problem solving. The resource has a clear example and suggested prompts. Would be good with KS3 classes. Thank you for sharing.
