Students will be able to distinguish and identify the differences of the urban legend of the groundhog that sees his shadow to prove the future weather pattern by assembling a flip book to illustrate that a shadow that is cast from his body on a sunny day (winter is prolonged) and no shadow is cast on a cloudy day (spring comes early). They will also learn about the science of shadows and the concept of symmetry of the shadow cast from the groundhog. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.
