Hans Hofmann was a German-born painter-artist who traveled to America c. 1932. There he became a leading senior-painter of Abstract Expressionism in New York. He had strong impact on young artists in the United States with his art concept of ‘push & pull’ in. Moreover he was engaged in many art-debates in the scene of the New York School in the U.S…

His first real abstract paintings dated from c. 1940. In a quote Hofmann stated as his focus ‘the ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary, so that the necessary may speak…’.
