History - KS1 - The Great Fire of London (6 lessons)
Suitable for KS1
This high-quality planning (2563 words), 55-slide PowerPoint and resources include 6 lessons that answer the overarching question; Why did the Great Fire of London cause so much destruction? The planning uses an enquiry approach and focuses on the children building historical skills through constructing their own knowledge.
The 6 lessons cover:
- How has London changed since 1666?
- What happened on 2 September 1666?
- What did Samuel Pepys bury in his garden?
- How was the fire put out?
- How long did it take for the fire to stop?
- What did King Charles II do to improve London?
This resource includes everything you need to teach the above lessons. It includes the planning, a 55-slide PowerPoint and all the resources (19 in total). The planning is engaging and everything is visually appealing, it also includes 3 levels of differentiation and a challenge. The planning refers to ‘disciplinary knowledge’ and ‘substantive knowledge’. More information regarding these ideas can be found in Ofsted’s Research Review Series: History.
Please note: in a few instances I could not insert pictures due to copyright restrictions, however the links are provided for where the images can be found.
