This resource includes two lessons. The first is a hot-seating challenge involving the main characters of the novel. Guidance is given to pupils on questions to ask. The second lesson considers the issues of racism in the novel. Again, pupils will question key witnesses to a discriminatory event and also consider what life was like for black citizens in the late 1800s. This lesson could provide a good basis for newspaper report writing.
