I used this activity with my 5 year old. It is designed to introduce computational thinking concepts through art and creativity. A personal mission is to use screen free activities to introduce the general themes of computational thinking. This butterfly activity introduces themes around:
• LOGIC
• SEQUENCING
• ALGORITHMS
I have included step by step picture instructions to assist the teaching of this. The concepts of logic, sequencing and algorithms will have to be communicated verbally by the teacher to gently introduce the concepts.
This activity can be extended to talk about the choice of colours and as part of the wider curriculum topic of the lifecycle of a butterfly. The children could also cut out a butterfly shape after the paint has dried to cement scissior skills.
