Josef Albers was a German-born American painter creating mainly abstract painting art, in colored forms. Moreover he developed in his writings his theories on color interaction and compositions of colored forms. Albers was also an famous art teacher, first at the German Bauhaus in Germany, later at the American ‘Black Mountain College’ in the U.S.

In his later abstract art-works Josef Albers explored the chromatic interactions with flat color squares, concentrically arranged, as he did in his famous series 'Homage to the Square’.
