Key Concept lesson - Chemical quantities

This was developed for Yr11 for revision after the whole course had been completed in the run up to the actual GCSE exams. The lesson starts with a speed grid where students have to analyse the formulae to determine the number of elements and the number of atoms. This is followed by a review of relative atomic and formula mass. Then a task where an exemplar is provided that writes about carbon dioxide and its formula mass, Avogadro’s number. moles and how to work out the number of particles in say 0.5 moles, or how to use the formula mass and actual mass to work out how many moles of a substance there is.

Finally there is then a levelled formula mass question task for students to apply and practice the key skills.
