Recall what key vocabulary means
Start with a producer.
End with a consumer.
Think about what each animal eats.
Explain that today we are going to think more about those purposes, thinking carefully about something called a food chain. Ask children if they know what one is. Explain what one is and how they work. Explain that each animal is important because if one animal was missing from a food chain it would affect the other animals.
Share with the children food chain PowerPoint which gives information and asks questions.
Explain that today they need to use their knowledge of what animals eat thinking back to herbivores omnivores and carnivores lesson. Explain that they are creating and completing food chains. Do some together.
HA: Working independently children use pictures to create as many food chains as they can.
After the picture activity they can draw their own / answer questions
HA/MA: Working independently children will have food chains with mostly one picture.
They will need to complete them using the labelled pictures to support them.
MA: Working independently children will have one part of the food chain they will need to complete it by cutting and sticking the pictures.
MA/LA: Working with CT children will have one part of the food chain they will need to complete it by cutting and sticking the pictures.
Plenary:
Ask children to share some of the food chains they have created and completed.
