This is the first lesson in a unit all about Picasso and his art looking primarily at portraits. The end outcome will be for children to design their own portrait in the style of Picasso choosing which style they like the best.

In this lesson, children find out about the different stages of Picasso’s artwork ranging from the ‘Blue Period’ to Cubsim. There is lots of artwork for children to analyse and think about. Children comment on the tone, colours, shapes and mediums used.

The outcome for this lesson is for children to design a double page spread on the artist in their sketchbooks, choosing the artwork they like and commenting on different stages of his life. They can use colour palettes and replicate some of his line drawings too. I have included the artwork on another document so children can cut these out and use them.
