This resource contains a powerpoint for a full lesson (potentially 2 depending on how fast students progress) for higher-ability KS3 and 4 students on speeches and persuasive writing.
It covers famous speeches, features of speeches, how to analyse them (according to purpose, audience and format) and the effectiveness of persuasive speaking/writing. Students are guided to complete a piece of writing of up to 1000 words, which is a persuasive speech on a topic of their choice.
This lesson is highly interactive, with multiple activities for students to discuss and collaborate with each other including analysing famous speeches and completing a set of questions on the King’s Speech.
