- 2 x PDF A4 worksheets for students to complete - including survey on peer breakfast habits, questions after after watching videos & smoothie design.
- PowerPoint to accompany that can be displayed by cover teacher or students can download themselves. Examples of how to complete each task making the activities easy to be set by a cover teacher.
Students to complete the activities on both worksheets - starting with a tally survey on the class (students have 10/15 minutes to interview each other - they love this!) to find out what they eat for breakfast, if they have a drink etc. Students then to answer questions based on their results e.g. how many students ate breakfast, how many of these drink etc.
Students then watch 2 YouTube videos (links in PowerPoint) and read several slides of facts before answering 3 questions on the worksheet about the importance of breakfast, foods recommended and excuses people give and how these can be solved…
Students then spend the remainder of the lesson planning and designing a breakfast smoothie based on the percentages of the Eatwell Guide recommendations; worksheet & PowerPoint includes ‘donut ratings’ to explain how they can achieve each grade boundary e.g. 1 donut = label ingredients, whereas 4 donuts = explain the function of each ingredient in line with Eatwell Guide recommendations.
