This scheme of work introduces students to Gothic literature before launching into an in-depth study of *The Woman in Black.
Students explore Gothic conventions, settings, characters and themes through looking at extracts from seminal texts such as Frankenstein and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
The main focus of this scheme, however, is The Woman in Black. This pack includes a detailed scheme of work, lesson by lesson PowerPoints (with accompanying resources), and homework tasks.
There are ample opportunities for assessment, including (but not limited to):
- Creative writing - using juxtaposition and contrast to describe Kipps crossing the causeway
- Evaluating how effective Hill has been in creating tension
- Transactional writing - writing sales particulars for Eel Marsh House
- Transactional writing - a ‘Thank You’ letter to Mr Daily
- Analysing Hill’s writing - AO2
