Introducing our 100 ENGLISH LITERARY TERMS SORTING GAME or HUNT, specially designed for Secondary English Classrooms. This engaging activity offers an effortless way to help students learn about language and writing techniques.

Simply print the provided materials and cut along the dotted lines to separate the term, definition, and examples. You can mix them up in a bag and have students sort them into the correct sets, or you can organize a classroom scavenger hunt where teams find the definitions and examples of their assigned terms. The document includes some ideas to assist you in implementing the activity.

While playing, you will not only make learning enjoyable for your students, but also help them develop their vocabulary and confidence with literary terms.

This activity covers a wide range of essential terminology, such as analogy, ambiguity, alliteration, allusion, bias, colloquialism, contrast, conflict, cliché, euphemism, hyperbole, irony, jargon, metaphor, onomatopoeia, oxymoron, paradox, pun, satire, slang, symbolism, connotation, homonym, register, mood, suspense, theme, and plot. Additionally, it includes character types, novel terms, and more, such as stock/static/round characters, red herring, resolution, turning point, and many others.

For added support and differentiation, there is a color/colour version available. You can use all the provided terms or select the ones that fit your curriculum.

Please note that I try my best to avoid differing spellings between countries, but there may be a few words with British English spelling.
