Literature circles are student-led reading groups where students take responsibility for their own learning. This includes assigning roles and completing tasks. As this work is independent, it encourages pupils to become more independent readers and develop their own responses to and opinions about texts.

You will be given booklets with the roles and tasks for the students to complete in their books. According to the role they have chosen, the LO is written out at the top of these sheets too so you really are there as a facilitator, letting the students run the lesson themselves.

All the information is enclosed: SoW, powerpoint, Literature Circle guide, guide for teachers.

For more information on what a 'Literature Circle' is and the research which argues it is a high-impact learning system, please see the references and further reading on the wikipedia page: (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Literature_circle)
