  1. Show you class a copy of “Luncheon on the Boating Party” by Renoir.
  2. Discuss the painting. What can you see in the painting?
  3. Ask them, “if you wanted to describe this painting over the phone to someone how might you do it?”
  4. Ask them to have a go at describing the painting in detail.
  5. Hear a few examples read out.
  6. Then read the example below and give them a copy to follow and refer back to. Ask them, “what can you learn by studying the example?”
  7. Choose another suitable and appropriate painting by Renoir and ask them to start afresh and have a go at describing the painting.
