In this activity, children must help a Peruvian family - The Garcia’s travel to Saransk for Peru’s first game. Their job is to find the cheapest possible route. they have four possible flight options, various hotels and ways of getting to the game. Students will work in small groups and use their mathematical knowledge (number, fractions, percentages, problem solving, division, ratio etc) to find the best option for the Garcia’s.
I used this in my Year 5 class and they LOVED IT! This resource comes complete with all the props (airplane tickets, hotel list etc), teacher instructions explaining the activity and a PowerPoint which shows children the correct method and mathmatically explains it.
