A literacy lesson on comparing and analyzing a poet’s choice of language, style and techniques suitable for Year 5/6. Includes a Bronze (LA), Silver (MA) and Gold (AE) challenges and a platinum extension challenge. It supports the children in identifying figurative language and to be able to compare and discuss poetry. All the poems are included in each activity. I actually used this lesson with my Year 5 class they loved it and manged to learn parts of the poems and perform it! I started with this lesson then they performed their favourite pieces the next day.

Reading related NC aims:

-Learning a wider range of poetry by heart
-preparing poems and plays to read aloud and to perform, showing understanding through intonation, tone and volume so that the meaning is clear to an audience.
-Y6: discuss and evaluate how authors use language, including figurative language, considering the impact on the reader
