The times table test has been mentioned in the government and we have been using this resource in our school for 10 years and it work effectively to improve children's knowledge of their times tables. It is split into 7 levels. I only allow my children to move up if they correctly answer the Olympic sheet 100% correctly on 3 occasions. We tend to do these sheets on Monday's and Fridays as a 4 minute starter. My TA then marks them quickly using the answer sheets but only for children who have answered all questions. As soon as she reaches the first mistake she stops, which makes marking simple!
In the younger classes we give the children a medal each time they move up a podium.
Under the current National Curriculum, children are supposed to know their times tables up to 12x12, by the end of Year 4. Children will be tested using an on-screen check (on a computer or a tablet), where they will have to answer multiplication questions against the clock. The test will last no longer than 5 minutes, however, children will only have 6 seconds to answer each question in a series of 25.
According to the new National Curriculum 2014 the expectation of times tables in each Year Group is as follows:
Year 2: 2x, 5x, 10x
Year 3: 3x, 4x, 8x
Year 4: 6x, 7x, 9x, 11x, 12x
In this pack I have included all 7 times table challenge sheets and 7 answer sheets. These sheets are now national curriculum ready!. All display resources, as we have made a display of these resources in each of the ks2 classrooms. I have also included my multiplication Olympic tracker which tracks the progress of the children.
There are 4 versions of each sheet to stop children learning the string or order of the numbers. I alternate between these sheets each week.
Please note, unlike the test these sheet also test children on not only multiplication but also the associated division facts too.
Finalist Level – Concentrates on children learning their 2, 5 and 10 times table (Year 2 national curriculum expectations).
Bronze Level - Concentrates on children learning their 3 & 4 times tables (Year 3 National Curriculum expectations).
Silver Level - Concentrates on children learning their 6 & 8 times tables (Year 3 National Curriculum expectations).
Gold Level - Concentrates on children learning their 7 & 9 times table (Year 4 National curriculum expectations).
European Level - Concentrates on children learning their 11, 12 times table Year 4 National curriculum expectations).
Olympic Level - Concentrates on children learning their 12 times table and can recall 100 Year 4 National curriculum expectations).
We use these sheets for homework and our pupils practise as regularly as possibly.
I hope this resource helps with preparing your class!

Whilst incredibly helpful, the print settings mean you can’t get a quiz on one sheet there isn’t a clean break
This is a great idea and I am looking forward to trying it out. Thank you.
