Phonics lesson and activities - aw sound

This resource is an** interactive lesson** and accompanying** activities** focused on the phase 5 phoneme** ‘aw.’**

The lesson is aimed at whole class or group phonics. It is a PowerPoint presentation that allows children to revise phonemes and learn or revisit the sound. It takes 15-20 minutes.

This PowerPoint is split into different sections:

• Revision of phase 3 and 4 phonemes in a random order
• Introduction to ‘aw’ sound and opportunity to trace the shape of the sound
• Spotting the odd one out (the picture without the ‘aw’ sound)
• Segmenting and blending sounds in ‘aw’ words

• Writing words with ‘aw’ sound
• Writing a sentence with ‘aw’ sound

The activities booklet includes 10 pages of independent work for children to complete either as a starter, homework activity, filler or as an additional section for a longer phonics lesson. The activities can be printed out as individual sheets or in booklet form. They include sound spotter stories, anagrams and sorting words among others.
