A lesson plan and activity sheet for KS2 poetry with a focus on personification. Based on the Poem “But Why” by Johanne Lee the resources include a suggested lesson plan which comprises of 30 minutes of poem study and 30 minutes of poetry writing on a pdf sheet. Additionally included is the poem sheet, a link to Johanne Lee reading her poem out loud, the positive poetry writing sheet and details of the poetry competition.

The aim of the session is to complete an understanding of the poem “But Why” and its use of personification and then to write their own positive poetry that will fit onto a postcard. The activity is linked to a poetry competition that the school can enter to win a virtual author visit, poetry treasuries for the school library and the child’s poem professionally illustrated and presented.
