This is a set of two lessons and a workbook designed to transition KS2 pupils into KS3. Give the workbooks to your feeder primary schools in July and they can complete a series of activities to introduce the Y6s to the project. They will create a character inspired by the Roald Dahl stories.

The students will then bring their booklets with them to their new secondary school and their first few English lessons will focus on the writing a story assessment in the second half of the booklet. The story will include the character they created in Year 6. No planning is required at all for your whole department's first week or two of Y7 lessons, and it provides great baseline data. Any students who arrive from outside the feeder schools can easily pick up this unit of work in Year 7 with very little additional thinking/planning.
