Romeo and Juliet Prologue Lesson (linked to theme of conflict)

Planned for a mixed ability Y7 class with know prior knowledge of the play at the beginning of a unit in which they will explore the theme of conflict in Romeo and Juliet. Includes a variety of activities, including a picture task and a vocabulary activity to scaffold students’ understanding of Shakespeare’s langauge in the prologue. On the prologue worksheet students are prompted to establish the key facts about the play and begin delving into analysis of some of Shakespeare’s language. At the end of the lesson, students can show their progress by linking the pictures at the beginning to quotations from the play.
