Watch a short clip discussing ten interesting facts about the Sahara desert.
The main activity of the lesson involves choosing items from the survival kit list to include in your backpack, for your trek across the Sahara desert (slide 6).
As a plenary task, pupils may wish to discuss with the class, the items they have chosen to take with them on their trek, expect pupils to offer justification for their choices. Alternatively, another plenary could include watching the clip of Aron Ralston, which explains why the items he packed in his backpack ensured his survival in the desert (slide 12).
The homework task is linked to the main activity. Pupils are required to include items from the survival kit list in order to create an outfit for the desert (examples can be seen on slide 8-11).
