Shape - Perimeter and Area

Lower KS2. These worksheets allow progression to learn increasingly complex methods of comparing size of shapes. Initially, children will compare sizes of shapes by sight, then by measuring perimeter, and learning to find the length of a missing side. Then, children will count squares to find the total area, before learning to multiply the values of adjacent sides to get the answer. The final worksheet uses word problems, so the children can apply their knowledge to real life situations. This set of sheets would make a good contribution to a shapes topic, and can be worked on individually and also using peer mentoring among varying abilities.
*FOR WORKSHEET 1, YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE 5 OF YOUR OWN SHAPES (BEST ON SQUARED PAPER). IN MY LESSON, I USED 5 DIFFERENT REGULAR QUADRILATERALS FOR LOWER ABILITY STUDENTS.
