This resource is an extremely detailed explanation of simple harmonic motion (14 pages).

This very important type of motion in Physics is studied in two separate topics in the IBDP Physics syllabus - the Standard Level Topic 4 (i.e. waves) and the Higher Level Topic 9 (i.e. wave phenomena). My very unique explanation of SHM covers the content of both topics. It provides a self contained, in depth, comprehensive discussion of the main physical quantities involved in SHM, a full derivation of all graphs and equations, as well as a table on the last page with a summary of all equations. The document also includes the two most common examples of simple harmonic oscillators: the mass-spring system and the pendulum.

This resource is mainly aimed at Higher Level IBDP Physics students. However, I have included a docx. file which can be modified and adapted for use with A Level students or Standard Level IBDP students. It can be given as an individual/group/homework/flipped learning reading task (fostering independent active learning), or simply given as notes for the students to have something to keep referring to.

This resources can also be used by teachers to refresh their knowledge of this key topic of the Physics syllabus. What makes this resource special compared to textbooks or free online explanations is its very well organised structure, the clarity of its language and, most importantly, the rigorous but scaffolded logical and mathematical derivations of the graphs and the equations of SHM.
