This is a spelling game and not found in the Step-by-Step to Spelling workbooks. It is based on a traditional ‘beetle’ game. You will need the word mats, a plain piece of paper, something to write with and dice. A learner can play this on their own or in a pair taking turns.
The word mats range from Year 2 sample words (02 pre), Year 3/4 sample words following spelling rules and common exception words (03 green and 04 green) and Year 5/6 sample words (05 yellow). The colours correspond to the Step-by-Step workbooks so that learners can play at any age or stage without being put off by year groups. There is also a blank word mat so that you can choose your own 10 words.
