This unit provides an insight to Stories from Different Cultures. It begins with Africa Is Not A Country and comparison with the UK, then explores the tale of Mufaro’s two daughters, who react in different ways to the king’s search for a wife - one is aggressive and selfish, the other kind and dignified.
The children are encouraged to understand and interpret common morals/proverbs, write instructions on how to be a good person and gain rewards and write an alternative ending for a story, with a different moral/message. There are opportunities to identify conjunctions, clauses and adverbials in sentences, to convert dialogue into direct speech and and develop their use of the possessive apostrophe.
This is a comprehensive unit, lasting approximately 4 weeks. It contains all the resources you will need to teach the unit, including weekly plans.
