This home-learning lesson allows students to explore the relationship between surface area and other quantities(measurements in physics. Of course this can be applied to other lessons in Chemistry and Biology, as surface area features as a factor in other concepts in these subjects.
The last part of the lesson is to start the students thinking about uncertainties in their measurements. While stressing to them that uncertainties are inherent in our measurements, this will further reiterate to the students the link between estimation and uncertainties.
In this lesson students would :
- Explore relationship between surface area and other measurements.
- Calculate the surface areas of objects.
- Measure and calculate the surface area of their school uniform.
- Demonstrate appreciation for uncertainty in measurement.
