A common mistake made when teaching chronology to Year 7 is to ask them to complete a timeline of their life. A HMI said to me that students do this in Year 3. An understanding of Chronology however is a key concept in the teaching of History. Once grasped it can support students understanding of change and continuity in particular, in addition it also serves to support students piecing together sources in order to make sense of historical events. In this lesson students are asked to put 4 things in the right order. They then move on to more technical terms and identifying which century years are in.
