Ted Hughes Selected Poems- Retrieval Grid -Picture prompt retrieval grid revision task. Cambridge Curriculum literature IGCSE

Students must work out which poem the picture represents as well as what quote it’s linked to. As added challenge some pictures do not represent any of the poems, I told my students to leave those as blanks. I awarded one point for the correct poem and two points for the correct quotation.

This is best done as a free recall- with no support or clues- written retrieval practice.

Teacher answers have been provided, students can also peer assess.

*The retrieval process cements the information in the long term memory, which should enable that information to become easier to retrieve in the future. Retrieval practice focuses on recalling information from memory as a powerful learning tool, not an assessment tool. Retrieval practice helps memory and therefore helps to improve learning.
