In August 1883 one of the loudest and most explosive volcanic eruptions occurred under the island of Krakatoa in the Sunda Strait between Sumatra and Java. In the wider perspective this eruption was part of a sequence of volcanic activities resulting in the formation and destructive power of volcanoes. If you are searching for examples of volcanic activity then the Indonesian Islands provide plenty of examples. Indonesia is the source of the greatest number of active volcanoes. Why is this so? This unit will provide the answer.
Use the visual material to explain the cause and consequences of volcanic activity. The cross sections are included so that students will be able to recognise the impact of the volcanic eruption on the island. If you think that 1883 was the end of the volcanic history of Krakatoa you need to link this unit with one entitled -“Tsunami 3 - the December 2018 eruption of Anak Krakatoa” .
The attachment pages are provided in black and white and colour so you can choose which form to use for your hard copy provision.
