A reading comprehension task which looks at an extract from the novel ‘The Hobbit’ by Tolkien. There are basic comprehension questions, language analysis questions, vocabulary questions and an original writing task. This resource is based on skills needed for Language Paper 1 (all exam boards) but it is modified to make it accessible for KS3 pupils. The theme is Mirkwood. The extract could also be used as a resource for analysing the Gothic genre.
