This lesson explores the use of syllables in poetry by investigating haiku and cinquain. The activities allow pupils to learn to count syllables, sort poems into the correct order and identify words with different numbers of syllables. The whiteboard activities will encourage whole class/group discussion, collaboration and participation.
The lesson could be used during a unit of work on writing poetry. Use of the whiteboard tools (eg pen, highlighter) would also enable the teacher to address other word-level work associated with nouns/adjectives.
