A set of materials I made based on the Marks and Spencer’s Food Adverts.
The lesson objective was to use interesting adjectives in their writing.
We watched M&S food adverts, as a class explored describing different foods and then wrote our own.
Included…
- Weekly plan (just a few ideas in a weekly plan format including this lesson, you can make your own lesson plan with some of these ideas)
- Word bank for this lesson
- Video example of advert to pick out language
- QUALITY Presentation (the same one) in the following formats…
- Mac / iPad / Keynote
- Powerpoint
- Movie Format
(Following this lesson, children then wrote their own advert using descriptive language and we filmed the advert.)

I liked the concept of using the M&S adverts to increase persuasive vocabulary for my ESOL students who are doing L2 exams. The writing task and embedded video worked well and they liked the word bank. However I could have done with more material and so I added in extra materials from TES archives on M&S to pad it out.
Fantastic Idea, thank you
