This resource is for higher ability pupils and is designed to help them build and strengthen their skills in using more adventurous vocabulary. Each worksheet has 9 ‘challenge’ words, which the students need to look up in dictionaries and complete the table by identifying which word class each word belongs to and writing out its definition. At the end of each sheet, the student is asked to choose one of the words as their favourite and write a sentence using the word.
It is an excellent extension activity for students to move on to when they finish their classwork ahead of others, or can also be used as homework or for a whole class warm up exercise (whereby they work on just two or three words at the start of each lesson).
