Students provided with cards displaying the views of people in different section of society during the reign of Charles I and are required to explain who supported the King and who was against the King and explain reasons for their judgement. Through graduated questioning, students are also challenged to evaluate if The Divine Right of Kings impacted peoples views of Charles I and how far Charles I actions led to causing the English Civil War. A card sort activity challenges students to identify causes which are political, religious and as a result of money and this activity is used as a scaffold for an extended writing activity.
