I made this PowerPoint when teaching the basics of World War II to year 6. I originally used it as a summary of the lead up to World War 2 and The Battle of Britain, but also a basis for a lesson on Winston Churchill. However, I felt it was so important in promoting British Values that I then used it as an assembly for the whole school on Inspirational Leaders. It can be adapted therefore depending on your purpose for it.
The visual representation of which countries Germany invaded between 1937 and 1939 makes it really clear for children to get an initial grasp on what happened. Although this acts as a very generalised summary of events, it is a great introduction to World War 2 and inspirational English Leaders. It can also be used as a basis for further research and exploration into all the events of WW2.
NOTE: The countries on the map aren't exactly as they were in 1939 (e.g. Czech Republic and Slovakia were known as Czechoslovakia and Slovenia and Croatia etc... were still known as Yugoslavia), but I used this as another topic for discussion - How is Europe different now??
