Writing stories using easy to draw symbols.
The benefit of this exercise is that it helps inspire creative ideas for story telling by using visual images to start with rather than words. The words can be added later after the base images are put in place.
Show your students the story board entitled ‘Gary and the Giant Glass’.
Ask them to try to work out what might be happening in the story.
How might the images be linked? How might they follow a sequence or story line?
Ask them to write down what they think is happening in each numbered picture.
Once they have experimented read them the example interpretation below.
Then ask them to sketch out their own simple rough story board and put words to it.
