A differentiated starter – Exchange Up. A counting game for groups of children to take in turns counting up to a target number of 20 (LA), 30 (MA) 40 (HA) using base 10 equipment and a dice. A second starter finding the value of numbers represented by tens and ones and finding one more and one less of this number.

An Interactive Whiteboard teaching introduction for both Notebook and ActivInspire flipchart building on the children’s knowledge of Base ten representations of numbers to find ten more and ten less than a number.

A youtube video link for distance learning introducing the starter, main part of the lesson and the AFL / Next Steps plenary.

A differentiated series of tasks requiring the use of Base 10 equipment to find ten more and ten less than a number.
