Year 3 Editable Story Writing Activity

Year 3 - 45 minute writing activity

You will just need access to the music "Pomp and Circumstance" by Sir Edward Elgar to play for your class. This is available for free on YouTube. An interactive whiteboard timer may also be useful so children can keep track of how much time they have left.

This worksheet splits up writing activity into the imaginative stage, the planning stage, the writing stage, and the checking stage.

Children will jot down ideas / pictures whilst listening to Pomp and Circumstance, and then go onto the next section of the sheet to answer questions which will help them plan their narrative.

Editable success criteria can help the children check their work with particular targets in mind at the end.

This activity requires minimal teacher input, since the sheet is self-explanatory. In this way, it is a good option for independent writing sessions.
