AQA Exam Buster - Breaking Down The Classical Styles
The new AQA GCSE Exam has a new type of question - the Genre question.
These test students on their general knowledge of the main Areas of Study in relation to their characteristics in music elements.
To help your students get to grips with these, try this video - the Genre Question Exam Buster. Three styles of music, all broken down into their musical elements using the knowledge and language required by the Exam.
This video is a huge one - broken down into four digestible parts! It covers the entire Western Classical syllabus of the spec, and breaks them down into accessible components of musical elements, together with audio and visual excerpts to illustrate the points. At 37 minutes, this activity can be broken down over many lessons and multiple homework assignments. A must-have!
Since You Been Gone Analysis Video EDUQAS GCSE
This tried-and-tested resource takes the listener through every section of Since You Been Gone by Rainbow, giving a deep-dive musical analysis into the use of the elements. There’s also focus on the keywords and definitions, all in an easy and accessible method.

Musical Mind Melter Summer Quiz 2023
School and college music teachers! Are you looking for a fun way to end the year in style?
Perhaps there are cover lessons or re-rooming implications, meaning you can’t finish this year’s music curriculum as you would like?
Are you looking for a fun quiz that is simple to run?
The Musical Mind Melter Quiz has been designed by experienced music teacher Dan Barrow, specifically for your needs!
Nine rounds, fully contained within one huge 40-minute video (but also available as separate videos) which can be run on a whiteboard, on student devices, student PCs or remotely. Teachers can run the quiz as they want, or simply press play and sit back!
The rounds are audio-based, packed with 161 audio extracts, including Beat The Intro ('90s, '00s, '10s and '20s), Stuck In Reverse, Slo-Mo, Double Trouble (2 tracks at the same time), a Disney Villains round and a special ‘Rick-Rolling’ one too!

This year’s EDUQAS Music for Film set brief is to create the opening scenes for an exciting documentary about space exploration.
I’ve gone DEEP UNDER THE BONNET to unlock what GarageBand can really do. And, boy, was I surprised! Honestly, I hadn’t realised how effective GarageBand can be in composing modern, authentic film music.
Time is of the essence! So I’ve put together a bundle of resources to release it as soon as I can, to help your students start composing effective, exciting space documentary music, regardless of ability or prior knowledge, but with plenty of stretch and challenge.
