Support your student’s ability to decode texts and become more successful readers with this collection of worksheets for Dolch High-Frequency Heart Words.
Heart words are high-frequency words that are not very decodable. Because they are tricky, heart words are words students must learn “by heart”.
This resource includes worksheets for all 28 heart words included in the list of pre-kindergarten Dolch Sight Words. Each word is categorized as a permanent heart word, permanent with temporary letters, or temporary heart word. There are three worksheets for each heart word. They are as follows:
Worksheet 1: Introduce the Heart Word
Use this worksheet to introduce new sight words. Students will trace the heart word and practice identifying the word by coloring circles containing the word.
Worksheet 2: Read it, Map it, Write it, Color it
Use this worksheet to provide your students with diverse opportunities to interact with the heart word. Students will read the word, map the sounds, write the word, and color the word after finding it in a grid.
Worksheet 3: Sentence Building and Fluency with High-Frequency Words
Use this worksheet to help your students use the heart word in a string of 3 related sentences. Each sentence uses the heart words along with other words on the list of kindergarten high-frequency words. After students build the heart word sentences they can work on their fluency by reading the sentences three times.
List of Pre-Kindergarten Heart Words used in this resource:
