Adult ESL Beginners - Grammar - Conditionals (Zero) and Global Warming

(0)
This lesson is designed for Adult ESL Students at high beginner or pre intermediate levels. It will work well with a mixed ability/level class and there are opportunities for differentiation. It is a complete lesson (maybe 2) on the topic of Global Warming and an introduction to Conditionals (zero form). It includes Reading, Writing ,Listening and Speaking activities. Conditionals not usually included in Beginner’s courses because it is quite complex. This lesson will be challenging for most Beginners as it also includes some complex vocabulary There is a deliberate repetition of sentences in the activities to keep this simpler for beginners . I have also kept the vocabulary level simple and relevant to beginner Adult ESL students. Most of the activities are quite structured, self explanatory and build on each other so they are best done in order. The activities could be done orally in pairs first, if that works for your students. You can structure the activities as much or as little as your students need. A detailed lesson plan and answers are provided This lesson aims to provide students with the functional language to talk about global warming and express something which is always true if the condition in the sentence is met. The lesson is based on a dialogue that introduces some vocabulary about global warming demonstrates the use of the zero conditonal form It covers a lot of other elementary language and language skills: Reading and understanding simple texts. Zero conditional – for general truths Vocabulary of global warming and general life situations. Completing a cloze activity Sentence matching and sentence completion. Question forms – What do you do if…? Speaking/Listening practice – asking and answering questions. Writing simple sentences Like all my resources, this lesson is designed specifically for adults. It incorporates language that adults will need to use and situations that are relevant to adult learners. This resource may include some Australian/UK language and prints to A4 paper. If you want to expand on this lesson, I do have a much more difficult Intermediate level zero conditional and first conditional lesson also on the topic of global warming , in my store. But it is quite a lot more difficult than this one. Each lesson uses a variety of Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening activites that will be meaningful to adult learners. The lessons follow a progression and I suggest you complete them in order; the first 3 lessons are based on the Present Simple Tense; Lessons 4 and 5 Present Continuous; Lesson 6 Past Simple Tense and Lesson 7 Past Continuous. Although the past tense is only introduced at a basic level, Lessons 6 and 7 are quite a bit more difficult than the earlier ones The lesson covers a lot of relevant elementary language: · Reading and understanding simple texts about familiar topics. ·Grammatical form and use of the present simple, present continuous, past simple and past continuous tenses · Question forms and negatives · Everyday vocabulary · Speaking practice – asking and answering questions, pair work and group work · Writing simple sentences For previews see the previews of the individual products. This lesson prints to A4 paper and may have some UK/Australian spelling. Thanks you for visiting my store. I hope you and your students enjoy these products. Please leave a review.
