I’m not kidding!
5 Presentations and two example analysis worksheets are downloadable from this one source.
Presentations with plenty of examples of the composers work include:
John Williams (Star Wars)
James Newton Howard (The Village)

Danny Elfman (Edward Scissorhands)
Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future)
The two example analysis sheets contain the youtube link to the song being analysed.
Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter
Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Carribean
Some links may need to be replaced to some of these pieces as the resource was created several years ago now.
3 Worksheets where children have to colour in the different types of Nouns up to:
Blue = proper noun yellow = common noun red = pronoun green= collective noun purple = abstract noun
LA sheet has first three
MA sheet has collective nouns added
HA sheet has abstract nouns added to that
Children are asked to extend themselves by writing sentences after they finish colouring.
Krystof Penderecki's Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima is an interesting piece of programme music.
This activity asks Pupils to listen to the piece (on YouTube) and look at a part of the score (attached) and state what they can see or hear that is interesting about this piece.
This activity is great for discussion purposes also. What is music? Does it always need to sound 'nice'? etc.
This presentation contains a full lesson with starter and plenary.
Starter involves pupils listening to two pieces and colouring and drawing - leads to a discussion of the differences between impressionism and expressionism.
Examples are given.
Serialism is included with a description of how to fill in a serialism matrix.
The matrix worksheet is provided. Some parts of filling in the matrix may need to be scaffolded by a teacher.
Informative lesson material.
This document is a list of the different types of song or instrumental piece that you might find in a Musical.
Useful for a revision hand out or could be used to further explore Musical Theatre.
Perfect authentic learning Music project for a Half term or shorter.
7 tasks and an extension task combine Music, Art and Literacy including rhyme.
Task 1 - create company and product
Task 2 and 3 - more artistic and literacy than musical but still related
Task 4 to ext - music tasks including rhythm, lyrics and instruments
Excellent and creative way to engage 9-14 year olds in music making.
This presentation contains information abut Minimalism as a genre of Music.
There are many examples given with some analysis information.
A great resource for examples of Minimalist Music.
This presentation and worksheet is a lesson in itself!
Pupils are given the worksheet with songs and the musical elements on it - and the presentation gives basic information about 5 Early musicals including West Side Story, My Fair Lady and Guys and Dolls.
Pupils listen to each song in turn and use their worksheet to analyse each piece of music.
A great fun lesson!
This is a lesson Flipchart. The Flipchart was made for Active Inspire boards.
This lesson was used with a higher level Year 4 class - real world maths! They had to use their knowledge of odd and even and addition to figure out the barcode trick, and check that the barcodes were written correctly. This was great fun, and really tested some of their skills.
This activity asks pupils to use the musical elements to compare and contrast 3 songs.
Due to copyright law I won't put MP3's of the songs but they can be easily accessed on YouTube.
There are 2 sheets where pupils will use a Venn Diagram to compare the songs.
Great practise for exams and for understanding analysis.
This worksheet can be used as part of English lessons where there is a class reading book, as part of independent work, for comprehension lessons or for guided reading.
Sheet asks the children to review the chapters of their book - liked, disliked, predict.
There are 5 tasks related to evolution in this pack.
Tasks combine use of ICT with Literacy and Science.
These tasks involve computer research, comprehension, poetry, mind mapping, arguing similarities and differences and mapping progression of mankind.
Most tasks require class or group discussion.
Lots of thinking outside the box!
Great fun for a few student led lessons.
Discrete grammar lesson on verbs and adverbs and their placement in sentences.
PowerPoint gives clear description and examples of adverbs and their function in a sentence.
Group activity within PowerPoint to find the verbs and adverbs.
Worksheet activity is a cloze passage with LA given words they could use on a separate sheet. To end the lesson have some children share their cloze passages and discuss use of adverbs.
LO: To be able to use adverbs to quantify verbs.
Informative presentation with links to listening examples for music written about 'Space".
Brief information about composers and dates of works is also given.
Includes:
Holst Planets
Kronos Quartet Sun Rings
David Bowie Space Oddity
Haydn The Creation
Mike Oldfield Songs of Distant Earth
and more...
Could be used for analysis practise.
Discrete grammar lesson on Contractions.
Lesson plan includes YouTube video to watch on screen with your class.
Worksheet uses popular song "Call Me Maybe" to explore contractions and expanding the contraction to full words.
When I did this lesson with my class we ended with them trying to sing the song with the contractions expanded. Everyone was in stitches laughing!
"I threw a wish in the well, do not ask me I will never tell"
Gives them an authentic understanding of contractions.
This lesson is written in a flipchart created for use with Active Inspire programming.
This is a lesson that I used to teach the children in my class about algorithms and programs in computing. It is an unplugged lesson, no computers required! It explains how coding works in a child friendly way. I used it with Year 4 at the beginning of our coding topic.
I created this Minions warning chart for my class this year. I printed this in landscape A3 and then printed and laminated little tags with the children's names on - but you could use pegs, or sticky labels as well. This works really well as my children love Minions and we always have a discussion about how some people are heading towards the 'purple' minions. I have used quite strong wording on this chart, as my class can be quite challenging, but you can alter this to use your own, or your schools' preferred language if you like.
New! Flipchart has been replaced by a PPTX.
This is a lesson I have used with children who did not work well together in groups. There is discussion about what it means to be a team, they have to define what groupwork is, and there is an exercise which will make a great display (a good reminder if it is placed in the classroom). This could be used if group work behaviour is slipping, or at the beginning of the year to re-enforce the idea of working in teams/groups.
A Practise Diary created for children taking One on One or Group Lessons of instruments in a school setting.
Contains space for:
goals for the year
one on one lesson comments
group lesson comments
lesson times for the next week
colouring in bar of how much practise they did and how useful it was
Was very useful as a peripatetic music specialist for Primary children.
Great for the less organised children in your class!
This basic resource gives a series of steps and time limits which you can stick on the children's desks to ensure that they are ready to begin learning as soon as possible.
I originally created this resource for use with SEN children but found that it worked great with my whole class!
