These lessons are intended to accompany a class reading of each chapter of the novel and develop skills needed for the new specification AQA Literature examination.
Some lessons focus on a more detailed exploration of the chapter which encourages students to perform detailed analysis of character, plot and theme. Other lessons are tailored to giving students the time to read the novel either as a class or as individuals with accompanying activities for students to complete as they read.
There is a full scheme that is available to buy in the shop section which has a focus on the presentation of conflict within the novel and contains two formative assessment points and a final summative assessment.
There are links in the notes section of the PPTs to an audiobook of the novel that is available on youtube and has specific times for each chapter listed in the comments section: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qY-X3PU1WFs.

A full scheme of work is also available in my shop.
A half term’s worth of tasks to accompany a Lord of the Flies module.
There are 7 tasks in total.
All the tasks are included on a mat that can be stuck in the students books at the beginning of the module- there is space left for students to add a due date for each.
Each activity then includes a slide that gives more information about the task set. I tend to use these as a plenary task before setting the homework so all students are clear on the task.
Each task also includes an extra ‘challenge’ task to help stretch and challenge the more able.
The ppt is fully editable so you can amend the tasks to suit your own groups.
I have used versions of this with high, middle and low ability students from years 9-11.
As a school we have found these help increase homework completion as both parents and students are clear about what will be set across the half term. Also enables students to catch up easily with homework tasks even if they have missed the lesson where it was set.
Lord of the Flies SOW also available in my shop.
A KS3 plan of how to teach, plan and track literacy across the key stage.
Each plan tracks the language and grammar skills that students will need for the new English Language and Literature specifications GCSE examinations from 2015.
Each document depicts a language, a punctuation and a sentence skill that students will focus on each half term.
It also has a clear rationale of how each skills links to the assessment objectives from the exam. It is intended to help staff to target specific skills each half term.
There is also a section that details suggested reading activities to be used with class novels. Each activity is linked to Bloom’s taxonomy as well as the AO’s and are different for each key stage.
The year 9 document also suggests how questions can be phrased to link to the new English Language (unseen literature) paper 1.
The scheme is intended to be used by a department to aid building literacy into existing schemes of work or to help structure stand alone library/literacy lessons.
This resource introduces students to the AQA English Language Paper 1 (Explorations in Creative Reading).
This pack provides individual lessons that are tailored to each question.
The text used is ‘The Return of Sherlock Holmes’.
Each lesson is planned for a middle ability group and is easily adaptable to challenge the more able or to support the less able.
Each lesson takes students through the assessment objectives required and breaks them down into chunks so make them more accessible to students (stepping stones to success).
This is the first set in a series of lessons that will explore a range of different texts from across the century.
50+ slides
Please note that some images and extracts have been removed due to copyright. Where possible I have tried to list what these items were either on the slide or in the notes section to enable you to try and locate if desired.

2 weeks of lessons to introduce English Language Paper 2 Section A- Writer’s viewpoints and perspectives.
The texts are taken from AQA Paper 2 resource booklet (available on AQA website) and are on the theme of conflict:
As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning by Laurie Lee
I see my wife coming off the field of battle by Tim Dowling
The lessons introduce students to the skills and AO’s required for each question and provide students with a clear structure to answer each question.
There are also model answers for students to mark and match against the mark scheme.
As I am using this with my year 11 students I have interleaved Literature skills by using the poems from the Conflict cluster as starter tasks. The aim of this is to aid students’ revision of the poems but also refresh language analysis skills. The poems link to the themes of the non-fiction texts selected. The aim is for students to spend 5 minutes at the beginning of each lesson revising the poetry skills which can then be applied to the rest of the lesson.
These could also be used as ‘unseen’ poetry revision for those that have studied the ‘Romantic’ cluster.
Activities aim to build a routine with students that they can apply to their exam. Approaching different texts by following the same steps is important.
Activities are aimed to be kept to close timings where indicated to help students build their time management skills for the exam.
Additional lesson information is available in the notes sections of some slides.
More resources for this paper to follow shortly.
